That first taste of success…and the first dose of reality.

Take a moment to enjoy the fruits of your labors, for you have earned this.  All the long hours, struggling with HTML and pictures that won’t stay where you put them.  All the advertising and list building have proven their worth.  Despite your fears that you would fail you have struggled on and now, you have proven that it is indeed possible to make money on the internet.

Now what?

Welcome to the ranks of Internet Marketers, people from all around the globe who are just like you.  It can be kind of a let down.  Some High School students report a similar experience when they enter college and some college students have issues when they first enter the work force.  Riding high on past success, all are faced with a wide open future.  In the vast ocean of people who are talking about making money, or dreaming about making money, you have shown your abilities by actually doing it.  You have every right to be proud of your accomplishments.

The question is, what will you do now?  You’ve proven that there is at least one buyer out there for what you are selling, how can you get your offer to more of them?  Faster?  What else might they want?  It can be dizzying to face the infinite possibilities.  This is the point where some people realize that they “left the oven on”…or “the cat just got out and I have to find her” before the kids get home.

You don’t have to be one of them.  Take a deep breath hold it for a count of five.  Breathe out for a count of five.  Take two normal breaths.

Feeling better?  Good.

I have 2 words for you “Don’t Panic“.

If you have set up a solid foundation for your business, you can simply build from there.  Or, if you made your first sale by being “lucky”, now’s a great time to make sure that all your ducks are in a row.  Squeeze Page, Auto-responder, Sales Page, Pre-written email series…traffic…check.

Now while you keep new visitors coming into your squeeze page, it is time to put your nose to the grind-stone and put up a second series of emails to promote a second product.

Or you could send visitors to your squeeze page while you work on creating your first product.  The goal is to keep your business growing, that means sales coming in while you are working on the next project.  This is the secret to making a consistent income.  You have to build up to it.  All a guru can do is walk you through the steps of learning it faster.

With the highly competitive arena of the Internet as your

playing field, you need to plan for your success.  Anyone can

throw up a web page and throw enough traffic at it to make a sale

or two.

But what if you want to make a steady income with your partner

products?

How can you get the best return for your time and money?

Tip 1.  Focus on a niche market.  Once you know to whom you are marketing, it becomes simpler to create advertisements to generate a steady flow of interested visitors.

Tip 2.  Use a lead capture page.  By collecting the e-mail addresses of your visitors, you open to door to building a relationship with them that allows you to market you merchandise again and again.

Tip 3.  Cloak your affiliate links.  Many Internet users have become savvy to affiliate links and a lot of revenue is lost to link hijacking, in some cases, up to 30% of sales go unrecorded.

Tip 4.  Optimize your website for the Search Engines.  There is no better source of targeted, free traffic than the search engines.  A high page ranking means that your offer will be shown when a search for your specific keywords is made.

Tip 5.  Write articles.  This one step does two important things, first it earns you recognition as an expert in your field and secondly, it provides essential back links to your website when your article is published by other website owners.  Back links are one of the criteria that search engines use to determine where your web page will fall in the ranking.

Targeting a niche market, building your list, cloaking your links to protect your profits, optimizing your website and writing articles may not seem glamorous, but if you concentrate your efforts, they will pay off.  Remind yourself that you are running a business and that for your business to succeed, your have certain goals that must be met.

To succeed on the Internet requires a good deal of patience and persistence.  You may not see results right away, indeed, some people wait years to see their first success.  Don’t wait for success to fall into your lap – it might be a long wait!  Use your time to build your business and you will find that sales will come.

Moving Forward

“What do I do Now?”

It is a question that I see in posts and chat rooms
everyday.  Once the first rush of business building
is over, the possibilities are literally infinite.

Will you write a blog?
Will you promote this offer or that?
Do you want to write a Newsletter?
How can you increase your income?
Should you create a product?

Each decision moves your business
forward.  Or, it should.

Once you have the basic business structure in
place, (squeeze page, auto-responder series and
OTO offer) you need to set down a plan to follow.

Some marketers use a to-do list, breaking up their
days into routine and growth-based tasks.

Other marketers use a more visual approach with
charts and pre-defined goals.

White boards, spreadsheets, and task-trees, they are
all just tools to use to keep your business moving
forward in an organized manner.  But, you can use a
notepad and a pen just as easily.

But not everything in your business can be off
the cuff if lasting success is your goal.  There are
two core business elements for moving your
business forward:

A mission statement and a solid goal.

Examples:

I cant write an article with no idea of what my
message is and I can’t promote anything without
my mission statement firmly in mind.

In addition,I don’t get in my car until I
know where I want to go and I don’t start
a new project until I know what kind of
results I want to achieve.

Let’s take a look at each example individually.

Your mission statement is your voice when
interacting with your market.  It is simply a
description of how you want to run your
business.

“Honesty, Integrity and Service.”

A mission statement is published on The
Coca-Cola Company’s website for access
by the general public:

“Everything we do is inspired by our enduring mission:

* To Refresh the World… in body, mind, and spirit.
* To Inspire Moments of Optimism… through our
brands and our actions.
* To Create Value and Make a Difference… everywhere
we engage.”

Both give a framework for communications
from the company to the general public.

Having a solid goal is just as important for your
business, especially in the beginning when you
begin to see your first sales and want to stabilize
your income.

What do you want to get out of your business?

* A weekly income of $250.00
* A monthly income of $3000.00
* An annual income of $50,000.00 or more

To be able to build a plan you have to know what
outcome you are working towards to be able to
determine what steps you need to take.

With a goal to maintain $250.00 a week you
are able to decide whether to promote a one-time
product with a $25.00 commission or a product
with repeat billing that pays $10.00 a month for
a membership site referrals.

This allows you to set both long and short term
goals for you business.  This is what moves
your business forward.
